4. Copyright (within Australia only)
Copyright is an automatic form of intellectual property protection and exists to protect creative works from being used without the agreement of the owner. Why formally register your copyright? By registering your work you can secure fair payment for the use and copying of same – both within Australia and other participating countries.
CleverLink will register your work for copyright on your behalf.
5. ISBN & barcode
The ISBN (International Standard Book Number) is a 13-digit number that uniquely identifies books published internationally, allowing for more efficient marketing of products by booksellers, libraries, universities, wholesalers and distributors. The barcode is the computer recognised code that comes with it.
CleverLink will apply for your ISBN & barcode on your behalf.
5. Printing
Let us know your specifications (paper stock, format, quantity etc) for the books you intend to publish and we’ll give you the very best package deal we can offer.

6. Delivery

CleverLink serves individuals, small publishers (who may publish only two or three key books each year), as well as large publishers (who may produce 50 to 300 titles a year). Mitta Mining
We were very happy to help Russell J Kelly produce his comprehensive historical account of gold recovery around Mitta Mitta in northeastern Victoria.
CleverLink worked with Russell on the cover design and we took care of the typography, proofreading and printing. Our client now has a shelf ready book, which he has made available through the Victorian Govt Book Shop online, Australia’s National Library and the Geoscience Australia Library.
Made In Australia
Chris Kennedy is an award winning script writer and film producer, best known for his film “Doing Time For Patsy Cline”. Chris enlisted CleverLink to help him produce his first novel; a work of fiction, based around real-life events. Chris had a high res photograph he wanted to use for the cover and asked us to adapt that and make it print ready. We also helped him with the typography, proofreading and printing. He now has a shelf ready book to offer his potential distributors.

Neville Lake's work is “management strategy masquerading as a science fiction novel”; it entertains as it teaches key business approaches. From Time To Time
Science Fiction author Marius Smith, came to CleverLink even though his publisher had offered to design the cover of his first novel. Marius had very exact requirements CleverLink were able to deliver a cover design that he was very happy with. Our client now has a cover design ready for his publisher to print from.
Carol O’Halloran
Carol’s work Alive & Kicking! is a series of interview with twelve Australian legends. They discuss exactly how they keep their energy high into their sixties, seventies, eighties and beyond. Carol had her cover book typeset and the cover designed before she came to CleverLink. Our client enlisted us to manage her project, which meant liaising with her choice of graphic designer and typographer. We helped Carol have her work printed and a quantity of book marks and postcards printed, to help her promote her work.

Is Self-Publishing For Me?
Being picked up by a publishing house is often quite difficult and more often this leads some authors to look into self-publishing.
After looking at your options, you might decide that self-publishing will work best for you and your book. And of course, having this kind of control over your own work means you choose:
• Exactly when you launch
• Who you sell to and for how much
• To retain full copyright & that means all profits
• To keep control of marketing & distribution
• To have the final say on design (and so you should - after all, you created it!)
On the other hand, self-publishing means the author or investor will bear the full cost of production, where if you sign a contract with a Publishing House they will pay for and manage all aspects of your books production, down to the cover design and when and how it will be released.
Leaving things up to your Publisher will mean:
• You will receive an advance payment
• You may be signed up to write more books
• The publisher will take responsibility for producing your book
• The publisher will take responsibility for marketing & distribution of your work

Be prepared & save
CleverLink offer a ‘print only' service for your manuscripts that are ready to go! If you have your work proofread, typeset and the cover design and ready to go, we will print your work for you. We have provided printing for many authors such as Neville Lake, Carol O'Halloran, Russell J Kelly and more!
Service is very important to us and in order to provide our best quote for you quickly, it’s very important that we find out the requirements for your book. If you would like a quote that includes printing, we will ask you for the following information:
• the size of your book: height & width in mm or A5, A4, B, C
• the number of pages:
• the paper stock: we can advise you on this
• quantity of books you want printed:

What’s involved in producing a book?
There’s quite a bit of detail in book production for the self-publisher - and if you’ve never done it on your own before it can be not only daunting, but easy to get wrong. At CleverLink, our experiences team will guide you through the production of your book to make sure everything is covered and none of your hard won resources are wasted.
Here’s what’s involved:
Cover Design: our design team consistently comes up with unique and inspired designs.
Typesetting: This needs to be done by an experienced professional to ensure the text and images appear as you expect, once it is printed.
Printing & binding: You may never have seen a badly printed or bound book – you don’t want to the first to be yours!
Layout: The setting out your images and your text has a big effect on readability.
Editing & proofreading: Editing will ensure your work is smooth and reader friendly. The proofreading is done after typesetting to catch inconsistencies before going to print
ISBN & Barcode: Important if you want to sell through retail outlets – even libraries won’t take your work without a barcode!
CIP (Cataloguing in Publication): This info goes on the same page as the publishing information in the first pages of your book. The library will require this and it also tells distributors, retailers how to catalogue your work.
CAL(Copyright Agency Limited): This agency provides some protection, should you have your work plagiarised etc.
Promotion: We can design and print marketing materials such as bookmarks, postcards, a banner or other advertising. We can also help you sell your books online!
